PHARMACEUTICAL & BIOTECHNOLOGY RESEARCH, DEVELOPMENT & COMMERCIALISATION

		Consultant:  Mike Bickerdike BSc (Hons) PhD Dr Mike Bickerdike has over 17 years experience in the pharmaceutical industry as a senior manager, having run numerous research programs from early stage chemical discovery, through to clinical trials.  He brings a wealth of experience to bear in the area of translating discovery research into commercially viable programs. Mike obtained his pharmacology degree from the University of Bath (UK), and his neuroscience PhD from Nottingham University (UK), before undertaking post-doctoral research at Aidekman Neuroscience Research Center, New Jersey, USA. In 1996 he joined the UK biopharmaceutical company Cerebrus Ltd (later renamed Vernalis Ltd), where he held several senior positions, including project leader of the company's flagship research program targeting obesity (successfully partnered with Roche), as well as holding the position of Director of Molecular Pharmacology.
		In 2005, Mike joined the New Zealand-based pharmaceutical company Neuren Pharmaceuticals Ltd, and was Director of Research and Preclinical Development until 2013. In this role he oversaw the successful progression of several novel drug therapies through preclinical development and in support of clinical trials.
		Mike is a current member of the Return on Science Biotech/Life Sciences Investment Committee and a member of the Life Science New Zealand consultancy network.
